Course Objective

At the end of this course, the student will learn
• basic concepts of thermodynamics,
• how to evaluate thermo physical properties of substances,
• several forms of work and heat,
• conservation of energy for the control mass and control volume processes,
• the limits of the performance of thermal engines,
• how to predict the direction of the processes and understand impossibility of certain processes.

 

 

Course Content

Basic concepts and definitions. Properties of a pure substance. Equations of state. Work and heat. First law of thermodynamics. Internal energy and enthalpy. Second law of thermodynamics. Carnot cycle. Entropy.
